Moissanite is a lab created replication of an extremely rare mineral (Silicon Carbide) originally found in 1893 at the Diablo Canyon Meteor crater in Arizona. A master diamond cutter showed tiny crystals of this mineral to the founders of Charles & Colvard and suggested that these crystals would make beautiful jewels. However, there was no naturally occurring source for this mineral and they realized that it would have to be lab created.

The lab created Charles & Colvard Moissanite has brilliance, fire and luster unlike any other gemstone. It is harder than Sapphire or Ruby and not quite as hard as Diamond. The color of Moissanite is from near colorless to slightly tinted yellowish green.
